    As in all YMCA programs, the goal for the National YMCA aquatic program is to develop the whole person, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Teaching methods are designed to help each participant develop his/her fullest potential, to encourage awareness of safety, and to master skills to the best of their ability. YMCA aquatic programs, offered at the YMCA of Hannibal in Hannibal, MO, are not only beneficial in developing a healthy lifestyle, but are also an excellent place for youth and adults alike to make new friends and, most importantly, to have fun!

    REGULAR MONTH TO MONTH GROUP SWIMMING LESSONS:

    These are offered for ages 6mths to 10years. Times are based on age and skill level. Prices are $35 for YMCA members and $60 for a non-member. Payment is due at the time of registration. Registration deadline is by the Saturday before the session is scheduled to start. Min of 3 individuals required for class to run. The YMCA will contact you if there are any cancellations in classes.

    Private lessons are best for those who prefer individual instruction (one-on-one) and to give each child the best opportunity to swim at his or her own pace. These are offered to any age, youth and adults. Times are done upon the availability of the individual, instructor, and pool time. The YMCA will contact you if there are any cancellations in classes.

    HANNIBAL HURRICANES SWIM TEAM:
    Visit the Hurricanes website for details. Ages 5yrs-18yrs. Must be able to swim 25 yards backstroke and 25 yards freestyle with an idea of rotary breathing under 1:00 min each. See swim team brochure for more information.

    NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN
    Credits may be given prior to the first day of class. A late/charge fee of $10 will be assessed for registrations after the Saturday before the session begins. Any registration on the day of the session or after the session starts must be approved by the Aquatics Director. Make-ups will only be given if a class is cancelled or rescheduled by the YMCA. Fridays will be reserved as make-up days. There are no individual make-ups. The YMCA will contact you if there are any cancellations in classes.

    Water Aerobics

    Group Exercises Classes (free to members)

    We are pleased to offer a variety of different water aerobics and arthritis classes for our members. Step into the pool and surround yourself with resistance you can use in your work out - WATER! Moving in the water is a fantastic low impact option for those with back issues, and or joint pain. Majority of class time is in the shallow end where you stand in chest deep water, deep water aerobics are an option for those comfortable going in water over their head with floatation.

    100 MILE SWIM CLUB

    Ready for a challenge at your pace and on your schedule? Need a way to swim on your time but still connect with other swimmers? Join the 100 Mile swim club! This is a yearly collective challenge to swim 100 Miles in one calendar year. Each time you swim you record the number of laps and the totals are updated weekly to show progress. A gathering in January celebrates 100 Mile finishers with a t-shirt presentation. Register online or at the front desk.

    PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

    One on one for swim instruction is a great way for adults to learn to swim or swim better. You receive six 30 minute lessons in a package. Register at the front desk then your instructor will contact you to set up a time that best fits your schedule. If you would like to work on breathing, diving, stroke techniques, you name it! We are here to help you become a better, stronger swimmer.

    Rates:
    Members $105 - package of 6 lessons
    Non-Members $130 - package of 6 lessons

    Swim Lessons Make Up and Refund Policy:
    NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN. If for some reason you need to reschedule a lesson, contact your instructor directly. If no contact is made and the student does not arrive for a swim lesson, the 30 min session will be redeemed for the instructor's time. If the lesson must be cancelled due to a facility closure or emergency, you will be contacted via your email address on file with options for making up the lesson. Private swim lessons are good for one year from the date of purchase.

    LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION

    Offered in the Fall and Spring

    We offer American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and reviews! Learn all you need to know to work as a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard. Course includes online portion, in-person learning and hands on training concluding with skill scenarios and a written exam. You course includes First Aid & Professional Rescuer CPR/AED. Your certification is valid for 2 years after a successful completion of the full course and is accepted nationwide. All pre-requisite skills will be tested at the beginning of the course.

    Participants must be 15 years old by the end of the course.
    Participants MUST pass pre-requisite skills
    Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
    Tread water for 2 minutes, using only the legs. Candidates should place hands under the armpits.
    Complete a timed event: swim - brick retrieval from deep end-return swim with brick and exit the water in 1 minute 20 seconds.
    Member: $200 | Non-Member: $280

    Hannibal Hurricanes Swim Team

    Hannibal Hurricanes Swim Team

    The Hannibal Hurricanes Swim Team is for swimmers aged 5 through college. We provide a progressive instructional program staffed by professional coaches that will teach water safety, confidence, and competitive skills in a fun and educational environment. In order to join the team, swimmers should be able to swim 25 yards (1 length of the pool) in freestyle with side breathing and 25 yards in backstroke with a steady kick. Participants will have the opportunity to compete in home and away meets at a range of levels according to their ability.
